1. Is there a minimum purchase?
Be careful considering a list broker because they try to capture as much of your marketing budget as possible. According to Can Work Smart, “They do this by setting minimum purchase amounts and charging for filtering: both encourage larger purchases. So while you might find a broker with low minimum purchases, there is a good chance they charge high fees to filter their lists.”
2. Who distributes the email campaign?
Communication is important for both parties when it comes to purchasing (and selling) leads. It’s much easier to send an email than it is to make a phone call, and list brokers know this. Most are afraid the value of their lists will decrease if they over email them out. Some lead companies want to protect the value of their data, and don’t sell email address, instead they will deliver your emails for you. You know how to sell your business better than anyone else. Is this really the right decision for you?
3. Is there a return policy?
Return policies can sometimes save you money. If you are starting a new small business and are on a limited budget, this may be the most important question you can ask. Be sure to find out upfront if your lead company has a return policy for what happens if you’re unsatisfied with the leads you receive or if you don’t end up using them.
4. How are titles assigned?
Titles can be confusing, because what a title means can vary from company to company. While different titles at different companies mean different things, some lead companies just use the same title scale for their entire list. So, be sure to ask how titles are assigned to your leads and that you are contacting the person who does the decision making.
